The world of eBooks is missing some favourite titles
When I first got my eBook reader I looked at the piles of books on and around the bookcases and imagined I’d soon be replacing them all with space saving electronic editions, sad to say the reality is somewhat different.
Although my weighty shelves of Le Carre, Clavell and Colin Dexter are almost entirely ‘converted’ to eBook format, other collections such as my James Bonds and Rumpoles remain stubbornly paper-based because eBook editions aren’t available.
It’s all very reminiscent of the early days of CD and MP3 downloads when a host of great performers and tracks remained stubbornly unavailable in the new format to the detriment of all parties.
Of course, for many of us the absence of a few authors and titles won’t be a reason not to invest in a reader but anyone thinking of buying one for someone with a narrow taste in reading material might want to check what content is available before buying.

It all depends on which websites you buy ebooks from. Some have books from UK publishers and others specialize in Canadian publishers, etc.
For instance, the Kindle book store shows 6 Rumpole books.
@eBook Reader You’re right that different titles are available in different countries but in UK-specific stores there are some important omissions in the titles available.
I didn’t mention Kindle because it’s closed system without much of a user base outside the US, something unlikely to change anytime soon – why would the average UK consumer plump for an overpriced reader they have to wait for, pay import tax when it does turn up and can’t extend the warranty on when they can pop into Waterstones, Argos or John Lewis, walk out with a reader and shop around for the best price for their preferred title.
There’s lots of Rumpoles available in all the formats, you can do a quick check at my site at ebookprice.info
Sadly not the Ian Flemings though, it continues to surprise me how long it is taking to get the back catalogues available, I’d have thought it was money for old rope!
