A must-see October 18, 2002 A.lan Stevens (LONDON United Kingdom) 22 out of 25 found this review helpful
Originally broadcast in 1994, this retrospective of Jackson's career doesn't quite tell the whole story (very little about being Nico's backup guitarist in the 60s for example), but does present the range of his talent and expertise. Old pals David Crosby and Graham Nash pay eloquent homage, and multi-instrumentalist David Linley reveals his obsession with polyester. Jackson himself gives some insights into his motivation and bashes out a few tunes on the old joanna. There are some great live performances from the current band, featuring mostly tracks from the "I'm Alive" album. If you're new to Jackson Browne, this will whet your appetite for more. If you're a long-standing fan, and you don't have this, what are you waiting for?
Christmas present for a true friend November 26, 2003 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
For the true fan or even for the reasonably interested and sensitive person, this is the DVD to buy them for Christmas. Not just a pure concert recording but a beautifully crafted history of Jackson with personal interviews as each song is previewed and played together with older versions skilfully merged. No one does melancholy like Jackson and this DVD has it all. In the words of the master, 'You know, I think that life is full of pain, it's painful for everybody, growing is painful, but I think that the only way through it, is through it, and anything that helps is a blessing, that's why we do what we do, that's why we do music' What more can anyone say? Just don't miss him when he's next in London, I'll be the one in the front row! This is the one DVD I would grab from a collection of over 200 if the house is burning down!
FROM HEAVEN AN ANGEL CAME TO HELP THE SAD AND LONELY May 5, 2005 C. Macandie (Cumbernauld Scotland) 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
This DVD produced by DISNEY gives a facinating insight into a man who has become like a family member to me over the past 25 years or so. Comments from Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt and others ; JACKSON himself cleverly interweived with some early Concert footage and more mid 90.s footage gives this remarkable insight into the man and his music. His raw emotion can almost be touched by the person watching him perform his songs of life and how emotional pain can be overcome by sharing it with others. The peformances touched my raw emotions with the the poetry of his songs; as he has done for as long as I have been listening to him. None more so than Farther On and Sky Blue and Black. Old favourites The Pretender , For Everyman, Before the Deluge and many more ; are even better when you see Jackson and the Band performing them. Living in Glasgow Scotland ; regretably I am never likely to see him Live but this 90 minute DVD - is a MUST if your a fan; but is also a worthy purchase for those who just want to see a fantastic singer/artist - buy it now!
Jackson Browne - Going Home [1994] [DVD] December 25, 2009 Mr. M. J. Morris (worcestershire, united kingdom) brilliant disco-biography of one of the great singer-songwriters of the second half of the 20th century.
Long time Jackson Browne Fan February 24, 2004 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
It has been a long wait for a Jackson Browne DVD, mostly I enjoyed it, the live concert sessions we great, it is nice to hear about his career, what is really missing now is a proper concert performance from start to finish, it is strange with so much material this is the only DVD I found. Jackson Browne is a great performer and this DVD is enjoyable but I found that all the discussions between the live sessions did detract from it, better if they were in another chapter and the music allowed to flow.
