Hot on the tails of our look at the online eBook stores offered by UK booksellers, we thought it fair to your wallet to point out that filling your new reader with titles need not cost you money.
From the earliest days of the internet, Project Gutenberg has been offering out of copyright books for reading on computers and, more recently, mobile phones and eBook readers. Their collection of almost 30,000 books includes popular classic titles such as Dracula and Treasure Island which would still cost you around the price of a new novel in most book stores.
All books can be downloaded without registering and many titles are available in a myriad of formats ensuring compatibility with pretty much all devices.
Feedbooks boasts of offering “thousands of public domain books and original books from new authors that you can read on any mobile device” as well as offering a self-publishing option for budding authors. Again, no registration is needed and the catalogue of books is offered via a very clean, web 2.0 style site.
Another popular site is free-ebooks.net which offers books covering an enormous range of categories from advertising to web design. There’s also an eBook download widget you can add to your own website, enabling visitors to download titles without leaving your site.
